Braselton, Ga. - The American Le Mans Series has announced its 2005 season television viewership figures, yet another affirmation of the Series' growing dominance in sports car racing.

According to Nielsen Media Research data, viewership of American Le Mans Series races in 2005 averaged 827,024 viewers per race, more than double its nearest competitor. In two network telecasts, viewership eclipsed more than 2 million on CBS Sports - May 22 at Mid-Ohio and July 17 at Infineon Raceway. The American Le Mans Series also generated nearly 1.5 million viewers for CBS Sports' broadcast of the Grand Prix of Atlanta in April. The American Le Mans Series' top-rated SPEED telecast occurred October 1 in prime time for Petit Le Mans, which claimed 439,420 viewers.

The Series boasts a comprehensive network and cable television package that combines telecasts on CBS Sports and SPEED Channel, North America's premier racing network. In 2005, CBS televised 30 percent of the American Le Mans Series schedule while SPEED Channel televised the remaining events, including the prestigious Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Petit Le Mans, the Series' first prime-time telecast from Portland and the season finale from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca that crowned champions in three classes.

"We believe that we have the strongest and most viable television schedule in sports car racing," said American Le Mans Series President and CEO Scott Atherton. "Our television partners CBS Sports and SPEED Channel have demonstrated a genuine commitment to use our compelling competition to help grow our series, and we believe our growing viewership is evidence the American Le Mans Series is one of the fastest growing race circuits in the world."

For the 2006 season, CBS Sports will increase its series involvement by televising five consecutive races - half of the American Le Mans Series schedule. CBS Sports' coverage begins with the telecast of the Lone Star Grand Prix on May 13 at Houston's Reliant Park and finishes with the telecast of the Grand Prix of Portland on July 23. Additional CBS telecasts will be the American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio on May 21, the New England Grand Prix on July 2 and the inaugural Grand Prix of Utah from the new state-of-the-art Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City on July 16.

"We are very encouraged by the way the American Le Mans Series has been received by CBS viewers," said Rob Correa, senior vice president of programming for CBS Sports. "That has led to a desire to do more of them. Five straight races from May through July, including the new two circuits and vibrant new markets in Houston and Salt Lake City, give us a very positive and promotable schedule."

Meanwhile, SPEED Channel again will kick off the 2006 campaign on March 18 with the prestigious Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring - America's granddaddy of sports car racing. SPEED resumes its coverage with the American Le Mans Series' "Race to the Championship" by televising the final four rounds of the Series, beginning August 20 with the Generac 500 at Road America. After the September 3 Grand Prix of Mosport, SPEED caps the championship season by telecasting the series' signature event, Petit Le Mans, on September 30 and the prime time season-finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on October 21 where the Series will crown its champions.

"Our relationship with the American Le Mans Series allows us to continue the SPEED philosophy of 'Big Event' programming," said Hunter Nickell, SPEED Channel executive vice president and general manager. "The 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans are world-class endurance races, and SPEED will continue to give them coverage commensurate with their position in motor sports."

In addition, SPEED will also telecast the world's most famous auto race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, from La Sarthe on June 17-18.

The American Le Mans Series opens the 2006 season with the 54th annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 18. The race will be televised by SPEED Channel. American Le Mans Series Radio and Live Timing & Scoring will be available for all 2006 events at www.americanlemans.com.
