Samuel Hubinette, posted a tenth-place finish in the D1 Grand Prix USA vs. Japan All Stars event, held at Irwindale Speedway in California, December 16-17.
Team Mopar's Samuel Hubinette reeled off an impressive outing in the D1 Grand Prix USA vs. Japan All Stars event, held at Irwindale Speedway in California, December 16-17. The event featured drifting stars from the USA and Japan going head-to-head.
Hubinette more than held his own, as he was tied at 100 points with two Japanese drivers following Thursday's closed practice session. He proved he could drift with the best of them, making the Top 16 on Saturday, where he matched up with Masao Suenaga, the No. 2 driver on the D1 circuit. Hubinette tried to catch Suenaga in the last corner, but the rear end of his Mopar SRT10 Dodge Viper came around a bit too much, causing a points deduction and an early exit for the "Crazy Swede," who finished tenth.
"Overall, it was a great show with the top drivers in the world," remarked Hubinette on competing against the Japan drift stars. "I'm looking forward to getting a rematch in March when D1 is back again."
Hubinette claimed the inaugural championship in the Need For Speed Underground Formula Drift Series in 2004, sweeping three of four events. He then had another strong outing in 2005, contending for the title until the final event on his way to a runner-up finish in the championship battle.
