Mopar Dominates 2005 USAC National Midget Car Season
Josh Wise, shown celebrating his USAC National Midget Car win in July at the Milwaukee Mile, led a pack of drivers that dominated the USAC National Midget Car series with Mopar power. Vehicles with Mopar powerplants took the top six spots in the final USAC National Midget Car standings and won 41 percent of the 2005 events.
The 2005 USAC National Midget Car season saw a year of domination by Mopar-powered midget cars. Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises' Josh Wise captured the USAC National Midget Car driver's championship, in only his second year on the circuit, while the 2005 USAC National Midget Car Entrant/Owner championship was captured by the Mopar-powered Wilke-PAK team.
A second-place showing by Jerry Coons Jr., and a third-place effort from Brad Kuhn, both of whom ran most of the events with Mopar powerplants, gave Mopar power a sweep of the top three spots in the final USAC National Midget Car points standings. It didn't end there, as Ron Gregory used Mopar power on pavement races to finish fourth in the championship standings, while Teddy Beach (fifth) and Tom Hessert (sixth) also posted strong showings in Mopar-powered cars. Dave Steele grabbed 11th place and Tracy Hines 12th, giving Mopar-powered vehicles eight cars in the top-twelve of the final points standings.
The three Mopar engine builders (Stanton, Gaerte, and Pink) also finished in the top five in the standings. Overall, Mopar power won 9 of the 22 points races (41 percent), with one additional non-points race win at Orlando Speedworld in the Mopar Sprint and Midget Classic in December.
