“Golden helmet” for Audi driver Dindo Capello
Ingolstadt, 13 December 2006
• Italian wins “Oscar of motorsport”
• Awards also for Allan McNish
Audi factory driver Dindo Capello has received the “Golden Helmet” from the
Italian motorsport specialist magazine “Autosprint” for a second time after success
in 2003, acknowledging the 2006 American Le Mans Series title won by the Italian
with the revolutionary Audi R10 TDI. “In Italy, the ‘Casco d’oro’ is the ‘Oscar of
motorsport’, that’s why this award means a lot to me,” explained the two-time Le
Mans winner who was handed the trophy in Bologna last Saturday.
Capello’s team-mate Allan McNish received two awards last week. The readers of
the Audi specialist magazine “Audi Driver” in Britain voted the Scotsman “Audi
Personality of the Year 2006”. Meanwhile for a fourth time in his career, the Audi
driver received the BRDC/ACO Trophy for the best-placed British driver at the Le
Mans 24 Hours from the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC).
Dindo Capello and Allan McNish clinched the title in the American Le Mans
Series with the Audi R10 TDI. They finished third with the diesel sportscar in the
Le Mans 24 Hours.
